How the Canaries has escaped the worst
NewsAs Spain considers another strict lockdown to control its wildly out of control coronavirus figures, the Canary islands continue to post encouraging statistics, and have been excluded from Spain's recent curfew laws. Yesterday, the island of Gran Canaria, which was one of the national hot spots of the virus just two months ago, recorded just 20 new cases and currently has a lower infection rate that Lanzarote.

Weather Watch November
NewsOctober in Lanzarote always feels like the secret end to summer. Whilst many people in the UK and Europe are hunkering down for autumn, we are lucky to still have around eight hours of sunshine a day. This was certainly the case last year as we started the month with plenty of blue skies and just a few wispy clouds. Temperature-wise we were above average with highs of 28 and lows of 20. The final week of the month we saw a change, with a little rainfall and clouds rolling in.

October Balance
NewsLanzarote has almost halved its coronavirus figures in a month. On October 1st, there were 135 active cases on the island. Today there are 69.

Dog of the month: Jimena
NewsJimena, a beautiful podenco born in July 2016, arrived in Sara in March, starving, with her nine delightful pups which have all now been adopted. Let's hope someone will give this sweet and gentle dog a second chance.

Flushing out the virus
NewsLanzarote is the first Canary Island to launch a sewage testing system aimed at detecting traces of coronavirus before symptoms manifest themselves. The project was announced by Cabildo president Dolores Corujo last month, and is already underway.

Lanzarote beats the second wave
News"That's the way you have to do it". These were the words of praise offered by Spanish Health Minister Salvador Illa at a press conference last month as he referred to the way the Canary Islands have successfully managed to control and limit the second wave of Coronavirus. At the time of writing, the Canaries is the best-performing region in the whole of Spain.

English lockdown deals another blow to tourism
NewsNine days after the UK government placed the Canary Islands on their safe travel list, it has effectively banned holidays from England for four weeks, following Boris Johnson’s announcement of a national English lockdown beginning on November 5th and lasting until December 2nd.

Tests for tourists
NewsThe Canarian Government today published its law requiring tourists to provide proof of a negative test result upon arrival at their accommodation.

Hotel testing “not the perfect solution”
NewsThe Canarian Government is drawing up a law that will make certification of a negative Covid test in the previous 72 hours a condition for any tourist staying in holiday accommodation on the Canary Islands. Although the date for the law to come into effect has not yet been announced, the Canarian Tourist Councillor Yaiza Castilla has said it will be “very soon” .

Imported cases are not the problem
NewsManuel Muñiz, the secretary of state of Global Spain, has finally explained the Spanish government's reasons for their refusal to permit airport facilities to be used for testing.

Who will test non-tourist arrivals?
NewsLanzarote's tourist association, Asolan, has declared its opposition to the Canarian Government's plans to conduct testing of tourists in hotels and tourist accommodation. Nevertheless, the Canarian government also appears to be fully aware of the plan's shortcomings.
