Two young men have been arrested for assault and the theft of a watch on the Avenida Marítima in Arrecife.
According to reports from the local police in Arrecife, two young men entered a Chinese shop on Avenida Fred Olsen and attempted to shoplift various items in the store. Once spotted, a few witnesses tried to stop the pair but were assaulted by the thieves and one had their watch stolen.
The men were caught and arrested by police on the Avenida Marítima. During the chase the pair split up, with one of them choosing to jump into the sea to try and escape, however, both were eventually caught and arrested.
The pair are now awaiting the following legal proceedings.
