DIY Covid tests arrive

Spain’s Health Ministry has approved the sale of DIY Covid tests as of next week. The test kits will be available from licenced farmacias (chemists’ shops).

Lanzarote's Chamber of Commerce has released this English-language video which lays out the requirements and details for businesses and the self-employed to apply for over a billion Euros of government Covid subsidies.

Lanzarote avoids latest wave

Covid infections have risen rapidly in Spain in recent weeks, with only Portugal and Cyprus posting higher figures in Europe. However, the Canaries, and especially Lanzarote, remain well below the Spanish average.

Scooter Round-up

Arrecife has begun to remove Link electric scooters from the streets, because the company that owns them has no licence to operate in the capital, nor has it applied for one.

A yellow warning has been issued for high temperatures on Lanzarote tomorrow, Monday 12th of July.

Fiesta season

Lanzarote’s most important religious gathering, the Romeria de Los Dolores, has been cancelled for the second year running due to Covid measures. However, the large craft fair that usually accompanies the festivities will go ahead in Mancha Blanca in September.

The English are coming!

Yesterday's announcement by UK Transport Minister Grant Shapps confirmed that, from July 19th, English tourists who have been fully vaccinated in the UK will not have to observe quarantine on their return from amber-listed areas, which include mainland Spain and the Canaries.

Tracing talk

Baltasar Gomez, head of Lanzarote's tracing team, has said that 45 people who have received a double dose of vaccine have since tested positive for Covid.

Canarian reservations increase

The news that the UK will lift almost all anti-Covid restrictions at home on 19th July has caused an increase in holiday reservations throughout Spain, although full details of when travel restrictions will be lifted have still not been announced.
