England's lockdown ended at 12.01 this morning, as much of the country entered the new tier system. Fortunately for Lanzarote's tourist sector, the UK government will still permit travel for holidays abroad from all tiers.

Floods and rainbows

Heavy rains once again took Lanzarote by surprise yesterday , rendering some roads unpassable and flooding several streets in the capital Arrecife.

Remembering the Cruz del Mar

This weekend saw the 42nd anniversary of the Cruz del Mar massacre, when seven fishermen from the fishing barrio of Valterra were murdered on their fishing boat by unidentified assailants. Just like every year, the dead were honoured with a floral wreath and a service attended by families of the victims, Arrecife Mayor Astrid Pérez and other representatives of Arrecife Ayuntamiento.

Stable progress

Lanzarote currently has 59 active cases of coronavirus, exactly the same number as last Sunday, and ten fewer than it started the month with.

Troubled waters

Lanzarote's Water Consortium has fined the island’s water supplier, Canal Gestión, for three beaches of contract, and the island’s water minister has said that the Cabildo is “very worried” that Canal is “starting to be a problem rather than a solution.”

Reduced to Tiers

Tourism from England is still on course to start up again when the current lockdown ends on December 2nd, after the British government confirmed that people in all three tiers were permitted to travel to airports.

Spain prepares for December

With a long bank holiday followed by the even longer Christmas break, Spanish authorities are preparing for a December that could potentially undo much of the progress the country has made in recent weeks.
