Child vaccination from Wednesday

The Canarian Health Service has announced that it will begin the vaccination of children between 5 and 12 years old against Covid on Wednesday 15th December , after the Spanish Health Ministry authorised the inclusion of this age group in its vaccination campaign.

Volcano losing force

After more than three months of eruptions, the volcano on La Palma's Cumbre Vieja now appears to be losing force every day, and experts have predicted that eruptions will end in a matter of weeks. Canarian President Ángel Victor Torres recently claimed that the “volcano will be over by the end of the year” after listening to experts.

Canary Islands to receive 54,000 children vaccine doses

Next Monday the Canary Islands will receieve 54,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses that are to be used for vaccinating children from the ages of 5 to 11.

82.5% of the Canary Islands' energy that is produced comes from the burning of fossil fuels. A report in 2018 showed that 2 facilities in the Canaries were amongst the most polluting in Spain.

First Omicron case on Canaries confirmed

The Canarian Health Council has confirmed the first case of the Omicron variant on the Canaries. The case involves a fully-vaccinated middle-aged man who recently returned to Gran Canaria from South Africa, and later reported symptoms. The man is currently isolating at home.

Arrecife to have first community kitchen

The Arrecife Ayuntamiento have put out to tender the plans for a community kitchen which will have an annual budget of 400,000 euros and be managed by the non-profit organisation, EMERLAN.

The Guardia Civil warn about online scams

The Guardia Civil have sent out a warning about the rise in scams through the Bizum app. The app, launched in 2016, allows users to conduct person-to-person payments via their smartphones.

Los Hervideros road down

The Cabildo has closed the LZ-703 road leading to Los Hervideros, the spectacular natural viewpoint on Lanzarote's west coast where waves crash into the rocks, because of possible landslides and subsidence.
