The Arrecife Ayuntamiento will have a community kitchen which will have an annual budget of 400,000 euros and be managed by the non-profit organisation, EMERLAN.

With a budget of 400,000 euros, Arrecife is going to have it’s first ever community kitchen for disadvantaged people in the municpality.
The Arrecife Ayuntamiento announced that EMERLAN will be in charge of the new community kitchen, and must present a contract for its formalisation, which can be extended up to a maximum of 3 years.
The winning company will be in charge of equipping the kitchen to host 100 persons, offering daily menus with a first and second course, dessert, fruit and water. The kitchen will be equipped with all necessary supplies for food service, as well as a telephone and internet connection.
EMERLAN have the task of presenting a balanced-diet menu with enough variety and options to suffice a healthy diet.
The food will be distributed from 12pm until 4pm, and the hours of 4pm to 6pm will be allocated for social services and social help.
The kitchen will have a social worker, two canteen assistance, a cleaner and a vehicle for transferring those on the street to the community kitchen.
Mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, stated “protecting the most vulnerable and meeting their basic food needs is one of our biggest priorities.
This initiative is necessary for a city which has experienced the two years of Covid and its impacts.”.
Social Services Councilor, María Jesús Tovar, also stated “It’s very important as EMERLAN will look for vulnerable people in the municipality, who need help, and will assist them.
We want to assure vulnerable people in the municipality, who get by with begging, that their food needs will be met.”.
