Canarian Covid figures will now only be issued twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, as Spain moves towards a different system of monitoring the virus.
Previously, official figures have been updated daily on the Grafcan website, which has provided in-depth graphics of the progress of the pandemic for almost two years. The Canarian government has also issued a daily report on weekdays, which was the main tool used to assess risk levels before applying restrictions. Both will now be updated twice a week from now on.
The move is part of the Spanish Health Ministry’s decision to monitor Covid in a different way. In the future , all new positive cases will not be registered and health services will use the “sentinel” system that is also used for flu and measles. This system involves a sampling system at hospitals and health centres.
