The Puerto del Carmen parade is a big favourite among the island’s local carnival groups, always providing a hugely appreciative audience of tourists and residents, and taking place along the beautiful seafront of the island’s oldest and most lively resort.

There’ll be special cheers for the resort’s local groups: Comparsa Sur Caliente will dance in spectacular white, green and yellow costumes, with fantastic horned head-dresses, while this year Los Guaracheros are an explosion of vivid scarlet plumes. A funky dancing camel will let you know that Batucada Chimbay will be following with their thunderous drums.

The parade is much more than a local affair – groups and floats from all over the island will turn up for one of the highlights of Lanzarote’s year.

The parade starts at 5pm from the Barcarola Club Hotel and will proceed to the Hotel Fariones. Later, at 8.30 pm, there’ll be an open-air concert at the Plaza Varadero in the old town.
