November is packed with visual arts events. The Cabildo’s cultural agenda features a program that stands out for its theatrical offerings, a variety of concerts, and much more.
The Cabildo’s Minister of Culture, Jesús Machín Tavío, has pointed out that “the month of November offers a diverse program in which images take centre stage. The Cabildo remains committed to positioning the island as a great space for visual culture, and we invite citizens and visitors alike to join in the many visual and reflective experiences of contemporary creation.”
Veintinueve Trece
From November 10th to 15th, Lanzarote will host the tenth edition of the Veintinueve Trece photography and visual arts festival, an event that uses images as a catalyst for reflection, creation, and contemporary thought. This year, the event will feature conferences, exhibitions, workshops, screenings, book presentations, and debates on photography and audiovisual media as forms of expression. The full program can be found at www.veintinuevetrece.com.
Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote
This festival has established itself as one of the most unique film events on the national and international scene, thanks to its ability to build bridges between the local and the global. Beyond the public screening of films and the development of its competitive section, the festival invites reflection on issues deeply linked to the identity of Lanzarote, but which also resonate in other parts of the world. This new edition will take place from November 20th to 30th.
Theatre
On Friday 28th, the Jameos del Agua Auditorium will host Lady Lady Lady, a monologue written by Sara García Pereda, directed by Pedro Ayose and starring Lola Rodríguez, which combines spoken theatre, audiovisuals and body poetry to give voice to the women of the archipelago.
On Saturday 29th, the Teatro La República company celebrates its thirtieth anniversary with Enemigo, a powerful adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s play directed by Nacho Cabrera, which reflects on justice, truth, and ethical tensions in times of fake news and environmental crises.
Live Music
The November program kicks off on Friday, November 7th, with a concert by Ana Margarida Prado, one of the most promising voices in contemporary fado, who is coming to Lanzarote as part of the Canary Islands Fado Festival. With a style that combines emotion and tradition, her performance will be an opportunity to get closer to the essence of Portuguese fado, a World Heritage Site.
On Saturday 22nd, the Lanzarote Ensemble will perform Antonín Dvorák’s New World Symphony in its entirety for the first time on the island. The chamber ensemble, made up of twenty-eight musicians, will bring together local talent in a musical journey that combines European nostalgia with the energy of the American continent.
Talks & Conferences
As part of the Lanzarote Film Festival program, the series of talks (in Spanish) on water will bring together leading voices from the worlds of thought, art, and literature. Participants will include art historian Amara Florido Castro, philosopher Iván de los Ríos, film critic Roger Koza, Professor Eloy Martos, writer Mare Cabrera, and collector Gabriela Cendoya, along with photographer Daniel L. Fleitas, who will address water as a symbol, resource, and cultural horizon. In addition, the conversation between photographer Daniel L. Fleitas and collector Gabriela Cendoya will explore the dialogue between nature, photography, and photobooks.
Exhibitions
The Agustín de la Hoz Cultural Centre is hosting Una luz negra (A Black Light), an exhibition by artist Marco Alom that opens on Friday, November 7th. The exhibition brings together the artist’s most recent works, in which drawing becomes a means of experimentation and reflection on the changing environment we inhabit. A poetic journey through the transformation of the world around us. In addition, you can continue to enjoy the exhibitions that opened last month at El Almacén: Jardín secreto (Secret Garden), Lo incurable (The Incurable), and Felicidad terrena (Earthly Happiness).
