Wet weekend ahead

Rain is forecast throughout the Canaries this weekend, as meteorologists continue to monitor a tropical cyclone off the African coast to the south of the islands.

Patera intercepted

Salvamar, the air-sea rescue service, has intercepted a patera (boat carrying migrants) off the Lanzarote coast this morning, and the service is seeking two more vessels.

Tremors offshore

An earthquake of magnitude 3.3 was detected off the north coast of Lanzarote on Thursday. The tremor was located at a depth of 8 kilometres and does not appear to have been accompanied by any other activity.

Water and power contract

Canal Gestión is finalising an agreement to guarantee electricity supply to its desalination plants. The contract could last for up to five years, with a budget of €79.5 million for that period.
