The saga of Jason de Caires Taylor’s “Rising Tide” horse sculptures may have a new chapter if the Cabildo’s proposal to site them near Playa Reducto in Arrecife is approved.

The Cabildo’s Heritage Department has ruled out placing the horses near the Castillo de San Gabriel on the grounds that it is a listed building and has also ruled out placing them on the Islote de Fermina.

The four horses were removed from the Castillo de San Juan in 2019 on the grounds that they did not align with César Manrique’s style and were not original artworks (they are replicas of sculptures first displayed in London).

The Cabildo has now submitted a proposal to Spain’s Coastal Department to site the sculptures near Playa Reducto, possibly at Punto de Camellos, the headland to the west of the beach.

The sculptures were purchased by the Cabildo last year at a cost of €200,000.
