March

The start of March last year was full of sunshine and promise, and then we all became familiar with our first lockdown and self isolation, with the weather seeming to reflect the mood of the island. As soon as we entered lockdown it became overcast and we even saw some light showers, too.

On the whole, March sees less cloud than February and as the spring sun starts to arrive, the UV increases. For a UK Summer, the UV averages at 7, here in Lanzarote we see this level in March meaning that, even on the cloudier days, you need to stay sun safe.

March marks the month when we seem to be well and truly in the spring mood; the sea temperature begins to rise a little as the days become longer and the clock change at the end of the month clarifies this.

It has been an unusual year, to say the least, with so many plans being postponed, rearranged and cancelled but in the words of Tony Bennett “Grey skies are gonna clear up, put on a happy face”.
