A five-year project will attempt to restore the landscape of 70 years ago on La Graciosa.
The LIFE Insular project, run by the University of Santiago de Compostela has chosen five islands for special conservation measures, and these include La Graciosa, an island in Ireland and three of the stunning Islas Cíes that lie off the coast of Vigo in Galicia, Spain.
The objective of the project is “to promote a favorable state of conservation of the habitats of the insular spaces belonging to the Natura 2000 Network in the Atlantic Ocean, while increasing their resilience as a measure of adaptation to climate change”.
Action will be focused on sand dunes, and will involve the identification and elimination of invasive species, and establishment of protective measures.
