The cook who murdered his employer in Puerto del Carmen in August 2019 has been found guilty by the Jury and faces a 19-year prison sentence.
The shocking incident happened at around 2.15 pm, when the 62-year-old cook grabbed the victim from behind and cut his throat with a knife. When the wounded man managed to escape into the street, his attacker stabbed him again, causing his death.
The incident was the last murder to take place on the island until the recent stabbing of a young man by a gang in Arrecife on 21st November.
In the trial, members of the Jury established that based on testimonies the accused was aware of his actions during the attack. The Jury did acknowledge that the accused suffers from BPD, however, they did not conclude that it affected his awareness of his actions.
During the trial, the accused stated that he did not remember his actions on the day claiming it was “like a film” and was “horrifying.”.
The Prosecutors Office upheld its indictment of a 19-year prison sentence as well as a compensation payment of 100,000 euros to the widow and three children of the victim.
The defence has expressed their intention to appeal the sentence.
