The first bottles of wine from Lanzarote’s latest harvest will reach the market in the coming days, but consumers will find far fewer bottles available than in previous years.

Wineries are preparing to release just 600,000 bottles from the 2025 grape harvest. This figure falls significantly short of the island’s typical output, which normally exceeds one million bottles per harvest.

The decline is a direct result of last summer’s poor harvest. While some statistical details are pending final review, the harvest yielded only 842,000 kilos. To manage the short-term shortage, wineries will supplement their offerings with wine held over from the more generous 2024 harvest, which produced 1.38 million kilos of grapes. Some wine from the outstanding 2023 harvest, which yielded over 3.3 million kilos of fruit, will also be used.

Malvasia will be the most abundant wine on the market. Approximately 400,000 bottles are expected, stemming from a harvest of 549,000 kilos of this unique variety.

The remaining third of the sales from the latest harvest will be for wine produced from Listán Negra grapes, which saw a summer production of 112,000 kilos. This will be joined by bottles from other, less common varieties, including Muscat, Diego, Listán Blanca, and Syrah.
