Canarian artist Jane Millares has died at the age of 94 in Gran Canaria.
Born into the famously talented Millares Sall family, Jane Millares forged a modernist style that celebrated Canarian themes and highlighted the lives of women, becoming one of the most important and well-loved Canarian women artists alongside contemporaries such as Lola Massieu and Pino Ojeda.
As well as a continuous flow of art, Jane Millares was also a tireless campaigner in favour of disadvantaged social groups, and also campaigned for the establishment of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1989.
