Spain’s meteorological agency (AEMET) forecast a weekend of rain after a long heatwave that has seen temperatures reach 35°C.
Last night and in the early hours of the morning the island saw some showers, which brought an average of just two litres per square metre per hour.
The north of the island saw the most. Teguise averaged 8.6 litres per square metre and Haría 5.2 litres. Other areas like Mácher and San Bartolomé saw 3.4 and 3 litres.
Areas such as Guatiza, Arrecife and Playa Honda only saw 0.5 and 0.3 litres per square metre on average.
AEMET predict a 100% chance of rain on Sunday morning and a 60% chance in the afternoon, on Monday a 55% chance in the morning and a 40% chance in the afternoon, and on Tuesday a 35% chance.
