Thousands of people woke up to glorious sunshine on Lanzarote this morning, many a little the worse for wear after last night’s Nochebuena celebrations.

It’s a day of rest, but there’ll still be plenty of activity. People are already strolling happily along the seafront, Christmas dinners are being prepared, bars and restaurants will be busy and health workers in Arrecife are ready to give more vaccines.

Over on La Palma, scientists are preparing to declare that the eruption of the volcano on La Palma has finally finished, giving that island the rest that it has prayed for.

It’s been a rough old year but here we are, lucky enough to enjoy the sunshine and breath-taking beauty of this little island, as well as the company of those we love – even if they’re far away.

Whoever you are and whatever you’re doing today, we hope that you find some peace and joy. Happy Christmas to all of you!
