On March 28th a couple were escorted off a Ryanair flight from Tenerife to Bristol after failing to pay £7 for on-flight snacks.

Numerous British news outlets have reported this week that a couple were escorted off a Ryanair flight from Tenerife to Bristol after their card declined onboard.

According to the report, 55-year-old Ann-Marie Murray ordered a bottle of coke, a bottle of water and a tube of pringles during the flight. When it came to pay for the items, her Barclays card failed to work.

Ryanair staff requested that she pay for the items with cash; however, the 55-year-old claimed that she didn’t have any cash on her.

Ann-Marie claims that she offered to withdraw money at the airport when they landed, which was apparently declined by Ryanair staff at the time.

When the couple began tucking into their snacks, Ryanair flight crew reportedly confiscated their boarding passes and told them that they will be met by police when the plane landed at Bristol Airport.

Ann-Marie was greeted by police when the plane landed and calmly explained the situation to them, claiming that passengers in the row in front of them had also experienced issues with Ryanair’s card readers on a previous flight.

The couple were reportedly told that they’d also been banned from flying with Ryanair again the future; however, Anne-Marie stated that they weren’t going to fly with them again after the incident anyways.

Ryanair later responded to the claims stating that the couple became disruptive onboard the flight and claimed that as crew looked to solve the issue, the 55-year-old proceeded to ignore instructions and consume the items prior to payment.
