Ecologists in Action have criticised the proposed widening of the LZ-40 road from the airport to Puerto del Carmen, saying it “goes against common sense and increases dependence on private vehicles.”

The environmental association stated that the works would not solve mobility problems, but instead make them worse and said, “They use the flimsy excuse of solving occasional traffic jams that are noticed only a few days a week during a specific time slot.”

Ecologists in Action call for “an integrated mobility study that contemplates efficient and free public transport, considers alternatives to critical traffic points, evaluates the landscape and social impact, and provides real solutions for the southern entrance to the airport.”

“The land and the landscape are our greatest heritage, and destroying it with new roads to save a few minutes of travel is a botch job that we will pay for generations”.
