The chief of Lanzarote’s Health Services, Pablo Eguía has asked the Canarian Government not to renew the licence of the ITV centre in Argana, Arrecife, so that the space can be used for hospital extensions.

The ITV (technical inspection of vehicles) centre occupies a 5,000 square metre plot between the Dr Jose Molina Orosa hospital and the main road to San Bartolomé. Its current licence will expire in 2025.

Eguía also told Radio Lanzarote that other properties in the hospital area are being considered for possible acquisition. If it proves impossible to extend the existing hospital, Eguía stated, then it may be necessary to build an entirely new hospital, in order to handle the increasing population – both permanent and transient – on Lanzarote.
