The Mióptica optical centre has been a byword for quality and expertise in Playa Blanca. This month they celebrate a very special occasion – their 10th year in business.

Daniel and Anita opened the Mióptica centre in Playa Blanca ten years ago, and it’s a perfect example of how long-term success is built on hard work. Many of Mióptica’s customers are English-speaking residents or returning tourists – “Over the last 10 years we have gained many returning customers, a lot of them from the UK & Ireland, who bought their glasses with us, and who come back to us every time they come on holiday”, says Daniel.

“What we love to see is customers returning for many years – for example children who have been with us for 10 years and are now adults… that tells us that they put a lot of trust in us”, Daniel added.

Lanzarote’s range of lifestyles means that opticians have to cater to all types of customers, from children to the elderly; from those looking for everyday glasses to fashionistas and athletes. Mióptica has something for everyone and welcomes all, ensuring that they leave with exactly what they’re looking for.

Mióptica offer a wide range of sunglasses, with Oakley and Ray-Ban among the best sellers, but they also have a selection of high-quality frames from Spanish designers such as Etnia.

High-quality sunglasses are a must on a sunny island like Lanzarote. “You have to wear them, it’s important to preserve your visual health and we sell all different types. This is especially important for athletes who live here or who come to the island for the annual sporting events”, Daniel told us.

Fashion matters too. “Many people like to be a little more adventurous on Lanzarote, and we sell all types of frames, from classic round lenses or aviators to thick frames that are on trend right now.” Mióptica have all of the big-name designer brands.

Being a Varilux Ambassador, a distinction awarded to opticians that offer the very latest in progressive lenses, Daniel uses the most up-to-date machinery. The newest machine, the ES 800 from Essilor Instruments, allows him to personalise glasses with extreme precision – with hundreds of options for custom lenses, shapes, frames, colours and engraving.

Last year, Daniel and Anita introduced their “Smart Shopper” digital assistant to help shoppers decide on the perfect frame for them. It allows you to virtually try on different frames as if you were in front of a mirror. Its “Remix” feature even lets you customise your own frames and glasses case with a chosen name and logo.

Then there are Smart Glasses, which allow you to listen to music, take photos and even phone calls on the go. The latest update also features a live translation function, that listens and translates speech in real-time. You can try these for yourself at Mióptica, too.

Contact lenses are another one of Mióptica’s specialities, their Orto-K lenses or “pyjama contacts” are worn the night before and allow perfect vision without any aids on the following day.

If you want to look Lanzarote in the eye and enjoy everything the island has to offer, head to Mióptica.
