The carabinieri are coming

Italian carabinieri will join the Guardia Civil to carry out “joint security operations” in Puerto del Carmen during the month of August.

The Canarian Government is considering introducing new laws requiring people to produce a Covid certificate before entering all indoor public areas, including shops, bars, restaurants and offices, as well as public buildings.

The UK government’s review of travel destinations has decided that Spain and the Canary islands will remain on the amber list, at least until the next review in three weeks’ time.

Covid infections have risen rapidly in Spain in recent weeks, with only Portugal and Cyprus posting higher figures in Europe. However, the Canaries, and especially Lanzarote, remain well below the Spanish average.

Scooter Round-up

Arrecife has begun to remove Link electric scooters from the streets, because the company that owns them has no licence to operate in the capital, nor has it applied for one.

Fiesta season

Lanzarote’s most important religious gathering, the Romeria de Los Dolores, has been cancelled for the second year running due to Covid measures. However, the large craft fair that usually accompanies the festivities will go ahead in Mancha Blanca in September.
