The square in Yaiza was in full swing last week, with long-standing traditions, markets and concerts at the official unveiling of the annual Belén.

New roundabout on Macher hilltop

A new roundabout will be created on the top of the hill in Macher, in the zone known as La Calderina, on the stretch of the LZ2 between the existing roundabout that leads to Puerto Calero (with Yaiza secondary school) and the roundabout to Puerto del Carmen (with the Eurospar).

Voluntary Covid Passport scheme approved

Covid passports will be valid on the Canary Islands from Friday the 10th December until the 15th January, and may be extended beyond that date.

Pre-departure tests for UK reintroduced

A judgment by Spain's Supreme Court has given the green light to the Canaries' planned introduction of Covid passports in bars, restaurants and nightclubs. It now remains to be seen whether the Canarian Government will introduce the controversial measure, and if so, in which situations.

Public Holidays 2022

These are the public holidays for 2022. May Day and Christmas Day fall on Sundays this year, so the Canarian Government has moved these holidays to 14th April and 26th December.

Arrecife starts €8000 skatepark revamp

This week the Arrecife Ayuntamiento continues its work to repair and renew certain areas of the capital. The skatepark will have all new wooden ramps, metal sheeting and a new coat of paint.
