Canarian President Fernando Clavijo yesterday expressed his concerns about water supplies on the islands to King Felipe VI.
Clavijo said that the islands urgently needed investment to ensure water supplies to the Canarian population, pointing out that the situation on Lanzarote had recently become “alarming.”
Clavijo spent an hour with the King, who is conducting a round of meetings with all of Spain’s regional leaders at the Zarzuela palace in Madrid.
Clavijo also told the King he was concerned about an increase of migrants on the “Canarian route” as a result of the recent Moroccan earthquake, global warming and political instability.
The King was reported to be “well informed” about Canarian issues and asked about the progress on La Palma since the volcanic eruption of two years ago.
Clavijo also told the monarch that his Coalición Canaria party would oppose any proposed amnesty for Catalan separatist leaders who were convicted for their role in the unilateral declaration of independence in 2017.
