A team from the French national television will make a report on the black coral forests found at Playa Chica, and experts from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will continue with their data collection experiments.
The black coral forests at Playa Chica are the subject of an international project that is taking place on five continents, and which seeks to improve biodiversity in our oceans to support the survival of the planet’s ecosystems.
Experts from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have confirmed that the coral forest are in excellent condition and points out that “our French colleagues are impressed by the richness and size of the black coral forests at Playa Chica.”.
The Mayor of Teguise and the Ayuntamiento’s Environment Councillor, José Juan Cruz and Carmen Gloria Rodríguez, stated “it is good for our municipality to have the presence of environmental researchers, to be able to study and protect a habitat in such a good state such as the seabed of Playa Chica and, especially, the black coral forests.”.
