95-year-old photographer Javier Reyes will be honoured as a Favoured Son of Haría later this year.
Reyes worked as a photographer in Haría between the years of 1943 and 1972, and the archive of 17,000 negatives that he has donated to the Cabildo is one of the most valuable records of daily life in and around the northern town.
Reyes has said “I never considered myself an artist”, and much of his work involved taking photos for ID cards, or wedding parties. However, he took his camera everywhere with him, and his work shows genuine skill at capturing informal moments in the lives of people who had probably never been photographed before.
