A patera carrying 42 people were brought to Lanzarote by the Maritime Rescue Service after they had called for help 31 kilometres off the coast.

The patera was initially detected by the SIVE radar, however, they also called 112 for help when they were 31 kilometres off the coast.

The SIVE radar detected the boat first, at approximately 11.30am, as the boat was roughly 30 kilometres off the coast. Shortly after, 112 would contact the Maritime Rescue Service to inform them that they had received a call for help near Lanzarote.

42 people were on board the boat including 38 men, three women and a child.

They were brought safely to Lanzarote.
