The Yaiza Ayuntamiento have introduced new drowning prevention campaigns in Playa Blanca, informing beachgoers on how to avoid accidents and how to act in an emergency.
The new initiative is promoted by Lanzarote’s Security and Emergency Consortium. “First of all, it is important to respect the rules and advice of the lifeguards”, said Fátima Viñoly, who was joined by Ayuntamiento councillors and the manager of the Consortium, Enrique Espinosa, last Friday in the main beach in Playa Blanca.
In the workshop basic tips are explained such as the close monitoring of children, avoiding large meals before bathing and refraining from getting into the sea if you are showing signs of fatigue.
Basic resuscitation manoeuvres were shown also; the instructors emphasised that any non-professional can save a life if they master basic resuscitation.
