Covid cases are rising on all seven Canary Islands, although the increase is not abrupt or extreme and matches trends in the rest of Europe.

Currently, figures are only provided for those who test positive in the over-60 age group, but the seven-day rate on all of the Canary Islands is higher than the 14-day rate, indicating an increase in cases.

Nevertheless, Lanzarote remains one of the least-affected islands, and has no patients in intensive care.

Eight Covid sufferers have died in Canarian hospitals in the last four days; six in Tenerife and two in Gran Canaria. One of the victims was a 59-year-old., while the others were all aged between 83 and 91.

The recent increase in cases among the over-60s on the Canaries matches similar trends in Spain as a whole, while the UK has also seen a rise in Covid cases over recent weeks.
