A young woman was rescued after getting into trouble while bathing at Playa Jablillo in Costa Teguise yesterday.
The rescue was carried out by one of the instructors at the Native Diving Centre, located near the beach.
The centre posted footage of the rescue on its Instagram account and reminded people that the island had been on a yellow alert for rough seas at the time of the rescue, with the red flag hoisted over the beach.
Playa Jablillo is protected by a rocky reef at low tide, but when the tide is high large waves can enter the lagoon, causing treacherous currents.
The incident comes just days after a Polish tourist droned while bathing off the unpatrolled Playa de Órzola.
