The entrance to Arrecife from Tahiche will be renovated, with a wider road and new fountain.

The stretch of Calle Leon y Castillo between the roundabout that feeds into the LZ3 outer ring road, and the smaller roundabout that serves the barrio of Altavista and the industrial and shopping area where the Eurospar and Neumáticos Machín can be found, will be widened with four lanes, two in each direction.

Although the project doesn’t mention it, locals will hope that the potholes and patched up tarmac in this stretch of road will also be filled. The extra lanes will also hopefully reduce some of the congestion that can be experienced by vehicles attempting to leave C/Mosta in Altavista for the ring road and Tahiche, or those entering it from Arrecife.

The plan also includes a decorative fountain, which will further delight visitors to the capital who have already been delighted by César Manrique’s whirling, silvery Fobos sculpture and the Bernardo’s Mermeladas factory while passing through Tahiche.

The fountain will be placed on the smaller roundabout. Cabildo’s public works councillor Jacob Medina said that the fountain would “improve the landscape of the area and give a welcome to all those who visit Arrecife.”

The project will cost €570,000 and the contract has been awarded to Herederos de Juan Acuña, SL, with an execution date of three months.
