From quiet coastal stretches to the island’s rugged volcanic interior, cycling allows visitors to experience Lanzarote’s scenery at a pace that leaves room to stop, look and explore.
There is a difference between seeing Lanzarote and travelling through it. On a bicycle, the island becomes something to experience gradually, with changing landscapes, climbs, villages and coastal views forming part of the journey itself.
That is one reason guided cycling can offer such a distinctive way to explore the island. Bike Sensations provides tours for beginners through to professional cyclists, with routes and pace influenced by the ability of each group.
The company’s E-Bike Tours provide an accessible way to experience some of Lanzarote’s most interesting scenery. The Omar Sharif Tour is a relaxed coastal ride combining culture, history and views. MTB riders can also explore away from the main roads, with tours available on request. Distances are generally around 40 to 50 kilometres, while routes are tailored according to the participants’ condition, weather forecast and group size. Safety is the key consideration.
There is also the option of hiring a bicycle and exploring independently. Bike Sensations offers city bikes, e-bikes, mountain bikes, E-MTBs and racing bikes from its Puerto del Carmen store. Racing cyclists can choose from models with features including Di2, disc brakes, 11 or 12 gears and carbon or aluminium frames.
For visitors looking to experience a different side of Lanzarote this September, cycling provides an opportunity to slow down and take in the island as the landscape changes around them. It is an active way to discover places that might otherwise simply become scenery outside a car window.
