AEMET has issued a yellow warning for a calima (suspended dust particles in the atmosphere) from 9 am until 6 pm on Sunday 23rd November.
Visibility is forecast to be reduced to 3 kilometres and high levels of dust are expected at lower altitudes. The calima is the result of a large movement of air from the African continent and will be accompanied by an increase in heat, with maximum temperatures of 26 degrees forecast.
A yellow alert recommends that citizens remain informed of conditions. Those with respiratory problems are advised to take precautions during the calima, staying indoors with windows closed.
A pre-alert for rough seas has also been issued by the Canarian Government from 6 am tomorrow morning (Sat 22nd), with waves of up to three metres predicted. This means it’s a bad weekend to go bathing, especially in open water and on the northern coasts of the island.
