The walkway at Playa La Garita in Arrieta has been closed by firemen because of the “bad state” of one of the barriers, on which several screws had come loose.
Firemen insist the problems are minor, and that once Haria Ayuntamiento have repaired the barriers and a Cabildo inspector has approved them, the walkway can be ropened.
It’s just the latest in a series of misfortunes that the wooden walkway that connects Arrieta with the concrete diving rock known as La Isleta has suffered in recent years. After years of disuse when part of the walkway had collapsed, a €400,000 renovation commenced in 2019.
However, in August 2020 high seas damaged some of the wooden decking on the structure, and it was not reopened until May last year.
