This weekend’s Festival de Cocinas Volcánicas in Puerto del Carmen’s old town harbour will be the biggest food event of the year, an essential date for anyone who’s interested in cooking, eating and drinking.
Almost 60 stalls will be presents, representing the island’s finest chefs, it’s most important wine makers, organic producers, fishermen, craft brewers, bakers and much, much more.
There’ll also be speeches and workshops on topics as varied as Filipino cooking, Canarian cheeses, the cookery of Madeira and how to use the famous La Santa prawns.
The festival will take place on Saturday the 26th November from midday to 10pm, and from 11am to 4pm on Sunday 27th. Attendance is free, but to sample food and drink you’ll have to buy special vouchers that can then be exchanged at stalls.
There’ll be music at 8pm on Saturday night from a U2 tribute band Rattle and Hum and this will be followed at 10 pm by a performance from La Mari, singer of the famous flamenco-chill group Chambao. On Sunday at 2.30pm, music will be provided by rockers Treinta y Tantos.
