Tías Ayuntamiento has inspected the tax situation of numerous holiday rental properties after it was discovered that they were paying incorrect rubbish disposal rates. As a result, €102,000 has been reclaimed.
According to information supplied by the Canarian Government, 1,117 of the 1,585 registered holiday rental properties in Tías were paying domestic waste disposal rates, despite operating as businesses.
Tomás Silvera, Councillor for Economy and Finance, said that Tías “has worked to correct a situation that generated a grievance among taxpayers. Holiday homes that operate as an economic activity must be taxed correctly, just like other businesses.”
