There are currently six shipping companies that have expressed interest to Puerto Canarios to dock their ships at Playa Blanca’s port in the future.
Yaiza Mayor, Óscar Noda, confirmed last week that six shipping companies have formally expressed interest to Puerto Canarios to dock their ships at Playa Blanca’s port.
Encouraging news for Yaiza Ayuntamiento, Noda stated, “the interest is positive, but we will not cease in our efforts until we see small and medium-sized luxury cruise ships docking in our port, smaller vessels, and vessels oriented to people with high purchasing power”.
Last December, Yaiza Ayuntamiento commissioned a survey from Puertos Canarios that claimed the resort would be left with one million euros from just 20 stopovers a year.
Sources used by the study indicated that the expenditure per cruise passenger amounts to almost €1,000 on a base port stopover and €150 euros on a transit stopover. This is spent on excursions (44 percent), shopping (36 percent) and catering (15 percent). Playa Blanca would be likely to be a transit stopover.
The survey also identified the Canaries as a growth market for cruises and claimed Playa Blanca could appeal to cruise passengers with visits to places such as La Geria, El Golfo or, the Timanfaya National Park. Water sports and restaurants are also singled out as an attraction of the resort.
In a recent meeting with the Port Advisory Council, Canarian Government Minister, Pablo Rodríguez, assured Noda that Promotur Turismo Canarias had been tasked with managing the marketing strategy for the Playa Blanca port for cruise tourism.
