The CACT have announced that they will be adding security measures to the Jameos del Agua to avoid “inappropriate behaviour” that has cropped up in recent years.
The CACT will implement “self-protection mechanisms” to avoid “inappropriate behaviour and attitudes” that have been experienced at the Jameos del Agua in recent years.
There have been several photos and videos that have gone viral on social media platforms that show tourists climbing into the protected water https://gazettelife.com/news/outrage-at-tourists-swimming-in-jameos-del-agua/ and into the swimming pool https://gazettelife.com/news/tourist-bathes-at-jameos-del-agua/.
To tackle the issue, new staff will be hired to remind visitors of the restrictions at the Jameos del Agua to protect the centre.
“We will also put security personnel in the pool area to remind visitors that it is an artistic creation and not for public bathing”, stated Cabildo Tourism Councillor Ángel Vásquez.
