The scooter driver who was hospitalised after being hit last week was four times over the legal alcohol limit and had jumped a stop sign.
The incident occurred on the 10th May in the Titerroy area of Arrecife, when the scooter was hit by a car. Police investigators have also established that the driver had adapted his scooter to travel at 50 kph – twice the maximum speed limit for such vehicles.
The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Arrecife Mayor Yonathan de León has instructed the Local Police to carry out periodic checks of scooter users, denouncing infractions and reminding them of basic requirements such as wearing helmets, being insured and driving on the correct side of the road.
