The Canarian Government has received 3,000 objections and suggested amendments to its proposed law on Holiday Rentals. The submission period for such submissions closed on Thursday.

Tourist Minister Jessica de León said that her department would begin to analyse the allegations received “in order to study their content and incorporate those ideas that contribute to enriching the document.”

De León said, “In a first analysis of these allegations it is evident that there is widespread support to regulate phenomena such as vacation rentals”.

She made no reference to the claims of estate agents and associations such as ASCAV, which accuse the Canarian Government of siding with influential hotel lobbies in an attempt to eliminate the holiday rental sector.

Meanwhile, AirBnB has warned that “disproportionate “laws could affect Canarian families.  Sara Rodríguez of AirBnB said that the company would be willing to work with Canarian authorities to establish rules that put local residents first and avoid policies that “continue the domination of the hotels”.
