Spain’s Association of Prison Officers has complained about the lack of mental health support in Tahiche Prison.
ACAIP made a statement on World Mental Health Day yesterday, claiming that of the 14 medical staff who should be working at the prison, only six are currently doing so.
“In Lanzarote’s prison there have been two suicides this year: one in September and the other just ten days ago,” said the association.
The association also criticised the lack of support at a national level, saying that it was impossible to provide adequate care with just 61% of the recommended professional support.
