The driver of the car involved in the tragic accident on Monday in which a five-month-old baby was killed and six people injured will appear in court today for a first hearing.
Initial sources from the local police indicate that the driver, a 23-year-old British resident, was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and that her vehicle was travelling at around 60 kph when her vehicle mounted the pavement in the resort of Playa Blanca.
The Cabildo has offered professional psychological help to the victims of the accident, their families and professionals who attended the harrowing scene. Social Welfare Councillor, Marci Acuña, said that a team of social workers will also be available to handle any relevant care required.
Acuña praised the first responders who attended the scene, as well as hospital staff who are caring for the injured.
Yaiza Mayor Óscar Noda also praised emergency workers and medical staff. Noda has declared that today will be an official day of mourning. A minute’s silence will be observed outside Yaiza Town Hall at midday today.
