Pedro San Ginés, who served as the Cabildo of Lanzarote’s President for ten years until 2019 , has announced that he will not head any electoral list for the Coalición Canaria (CC) party in next May’s local elections.
“I’m a risky candidate” he told a press conference, in reference to several court cases and corruption investigations that he is currently involved in.
However, he also stated that he would not be leaving his position in the Cabildo, nor resigning as spokesman for the CC. He also refused to rule out presenting himself as a candidate further down on an electoral list, which could mean his return as a councillor.
His announcement leaves the way clear for a new CC candidate to stand for the presidency of the Cabildo, with many expecting Teguise Mayor Oswaldo Betancort to be one of the front-runners.
