Cabildo Councillor Óscar Noda has called on the President of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, to report on the state of public transport on Lanzarote.

Noda said “roads are practically the same as they were 30 years ago, the transport service is the same as it was 30 years ago, but the island has grown by more than 150% and nobody is doing anything about it. There’s a lot of talk, but no action.”

He described the island’s transport situation as one of “saturation, imbalance, and unreliability,” particularly on routes connecting the airport and resorts with the rest of the island.

Noda, who is also the Mayor of Yaiza, highlighted the 161 route connecting Playa Blanca with the airport and Arrecife, saying “the buses are usually packed with tourists every day, preventing local residents from finding seats for their daily commutes to work.” He also criticised the punctuality of the services.

“Roads are becoming congested; buses are leaving passengers stranded and causing them to arrive late. The service is clearly insufficient for our people. Lanzarote deserves an explanation and better management of its transportation system,” Noda concluded.
