Lanzarote is set to record the worst wine harvest of the 21st century, according to the Regulating Council of the Lanzarote Denomination of Origin.
With a month of the grape-picking season gone by, only half a million tons of grapes have been gathered, and it seems unlikely that the total for 2025 will reach 600,000 tons.
The total weight of grapes collected has only fallen below one million tons four times this century, with 2016’s figure of 695,571 tons the worst harvest on record.
The poor harvest is likely to cause the island’s bodegas to struggle to meet the strong demand for Lanzarote wine.
