25 victims of a human trafficking operation have been freed by the Guardia Civil after a series of property searches in Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.
The Guardia Civil have freed 25 victims and arrested 10 people on human trafficking charges and money laundering. One of the 25 victims, who was found in one of the eleven searches, has been identified as a minor.
The operation began when the Guardia Civil detected a sex trafficking network within the Canaries that were targeting victims in South America. After arriving on the islands, the victims would stay in homes or apartments provided by the criminal organisation.
During the 8-month investigation, Guardia Civil agents carried out a total of eleven property searches in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Santa Lucía de Tirajana and Arrecife.
The detainees are now awaiting the following legal proceedings.
