An act of faith at an unprecedented time – that was the official opening of the new, five-star Hotel Fariones last Wednesday evening, as fireworks lit up a sweltering night over Puerto del Carmen.
The event was one of the last major social events before new regulations put an end to all gatherings of over 10 people, and was carried out under strict anti-Covid conditions. Guests enjoyed cocktails and samples of delicacies from the hotel’s impressive kitchens on the terrace that overlooks the new infinity pool.
€30 million has been spent on establishing Lanzarote’s oldest and most iconic hotel as a five.star hotel, and the outlay can be seen at every turn, from the exquisitely selected Lanzarote artworks that decorate the hotel and every one of the 213 rooms, to the stunning gardens and gourmet restaurants.
The event was elegant and stylish, but more than that – it was a defiant shout that tourism will be back.
