Plans to repair and re-open the LZ-703 road from Janubio to El Golfo next year are underway, the Cabildo has announced.
The road was closed in February 2021 after a large sinkhole appeared in it. The hole was caused by natural erosion from the relentless pounding of the sea. Since then, all access to El Golfo (and Los Hervideros) has been via the LZ-704 road from Yaiza.
A blueprint for the repair project will be submitted by the end of the September. It will involve the repairing the sinkhole and road and installing “special pillars” to create a 30-metre “bridge”.
It is expected that licences will be granted before the end of the year, with works on the €4 million project commencing in 2025 and forecast to last several months.
