Lanzarote’s Cabildo has green-lighted the use of 14.2 million Euros to be used for social assistance. The money will come from “remnants” – budget surpluses that must be spent before the end of the current legislature next May.

Cabildo Finance Councillor Rosa Montero said “the subsidies will go towards collaboration with the social emergency funds pf the municipalities, as well as associations dedicated to preventing and combating social exclusion. ” .

“There is also aid aimed at promoting employment or promoting entrepreneurship, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and employers’ organizations; and subsidies aimed at agriculture, transport, leisure and sports, sustainability and the environment,” she added.

The Cabildo also said that funds would be aimed at support groups for sufferers of disease, migrant associations that work on integration… and the disabled and dependent sector.
